Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the top treatments for the treatment of trauma and utilizes an 8-step approach to treatment. EMDR helps to release old memories that are stuck in traumatic events so that normal information processing is restored. Following a successful EMDR session, individuals typically have a drastic change in symptoms and are less upset when they think about the event that was processed. Besides trauma, EMDR has been shown to aid in panic attacks, complicated grief, dysfunctional personality styles, stress reduction, eating disorders, pain disorders, and performance anxiety. Dr. Killian also utilizes parts of the Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS), a form of ego state therapy that addresses "parts of self" that are stuck in childhood. DNMS is based on the same principles as EMDR, but specifically focuses on trauma that occurred in childhood. For more information visit the DNMS institute at www.dnmsinstitute.com. Research is also identifying the importance of the body and how we store life events. For this reason, energy healing may be utilized to aid in healing both emotional and physical symptoms, as well as body-based therapy protocols including somatic tracking and Qigong. The importance of breath work, body movement, and guided imagery aid the system in opening all the energy channels in the body, allowing release from the cellular memory. All of our experiences are stored in the body on a cellular level. When negative events build up in one’s system and is not released, then physical pain such as headaches, backaches, and other complaints may arise. Understanding and mastering one's own system can be powerful and bring long-lasting healing relief.
