ABOUT HEATHER Heather Killian received her Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology from The Minnesota School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in 2010 and her Masters Degree in 2006. Her doctoral research involved testing the correlation between childhood trauma and the later development of dysfunctional personality styles in adulthood. Dr. Killian’s academic specialty areas are traumatology and child/family therapy. Her clinical experience has focused on the treatment of trauma-related anxiety and depression related to unmet developmental needs, sexual, physical, emotional and verbal abuse, and family violence. She also aids people in understanding and shifting repeated patterns of dysfunctional relationship dynamics and subsequent parenting concerns. She helps people work through their sadness, anger, and other difficult emotions, as well as helping her client's to understand and ultimately improve identity and self-esteem issues. Dr. Killian has developed special expertise in working with domestic violence victims and treatment-resistant adolescents. Her modalities of treatment include psychodynamic psychotherapy, schema work, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) , ego state therapy, and body-based approaches, including energy healing, to understand how emotions store and release in the body and how they impact overall physical and psychological health and well-being. The modality of treatment utilized is dependent on the needs of each client and their goals for treatment. Dr. Killian is also trained to complete psychodiagnostic assessments and testing. She has completed psychological assessments for both her client's and those of other clinicians, as well as disability evaluations for the state of WI as part of her clinical training. Additionally, she is a level 3 Spring Forest Qigong healer and is also certified in level 1 Reiki. Dr. Killian has also completed 3 levels of The Joy of Life program, which incorporates transpersonal psychology, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and the practice of Kriya Yoga meditation. She currently incorporates body based approaches in her practice as a psychotherapist when appropriate. |
